THE SACRED FIRE

Today, we recite Yasna 33, a Gatha composed by the Prophet Zarathustra over 3000 years ago. The good mind, or Vohu Manah, is the faculty of discernment, which enables us to distinguish between right and wrong, and to choose the path of righteousness. By invoking the presence of Ahura Mazda and the Amesha Spentas, we seek guidance, wisdom, and protection on our journey. These verses remind us that our thoughts, words, and deeds have consequences, and that we must strive to live in harmony with the divine will.

In the stillness of the midnight hour, we gather to honor the sacred fire, a symbol of the eternal flame of righteousness. This vigil is a testament to our commitment to Asha, the divine order of truth and justice. As we stand before the fire, we invoke Vohu Manah, the Good Mind, which guides us on the path of righteousness. Spenta Mainyu, the beneficent spirit, infuses us with the power to discern right from wrong. As we continue our vigil, we call upon the Amesha Spentas, the six divine beings who embody the virtues of the universe. Haurvatat, the wholeness and perfection of existence, and Ameretat, the immortality and eternal life of the soul, join Vohu Manah and Asha in our prayers. These divine entities are not separate from Ahura Mazda, the one supreme God, but are aspects of the divine. They guide us in our quest for spiritual growth, wisdom, and self-purification. By invoking their presence, we align ourselves with the cosmic order, upholding the principles of truth, justice, and righteousness.

As we apply the wisdom of the vigil to our daily lives, we strive to emulate the qualities of the Amesha Spentas. We cultivate Vohu Manah by making conscious choices, guided by our intuition and inner wisdom. We uphold Asha by living truthfully and justly, in harmony with the natural world. In our relationships, we embody Haurvatat and Ameretat by promoting wholeness, perfection, and immortality of spirit. By living in accordance with these divine principles, we become agents of positive change, contributing to the betterment of the world. As we face challenges and difficulties, we draw strength from the sacred fire, which burns within us, guiding us towards righteousness and wisdom.

But there is a counterforce to the divine order, a destructive energy known as Druj, the Lie. Druj represents chaos, disorder, and falsehood. In modern times, Druj manifests in various forms, such as deceit, manipulation, and exploitation. It can take the guise of fake news, propaganda, and misinformation. We must be vigilant and recognize the signs of Druj, which seeks to undermine truth, justice, and righteousness. To resist Druj, we must cultivate discernment, critical thinking, and spiritual awareness. By standing firm in our commitment to Asha and Vohu Manah, we can overcome the influence of Druj and promote a world of truth, justice, and harmony.

Let us take a deeper look at Vohu Manah, the Good Mind. Vohu Manah is the Amesha Spenta who guides us on the path of righteousness, inspiring us to make wise choices and cultivate discernment. He represents the power of intuition, which allows us to navigate life's challenges with wisdom and foresight. By invoking Vohu Manah, we tap into the divine wisdom that resides within us, enabling us to make decisions that align with our highest good and the greater good of the world.
