A warm welcome to all seekers of truth and wisdom as we gather at the sacred temple of Asha. As the first light of dawn creeps over the horizon, our hearts and souls are filled with anticipation and reverence. Before us, the sacred fire, a symbol of the divine spark within, burns brightly, casting a warm glow on the surroundings. The air is filled with the sweet fragrance of sandalwood and the soft chanting of ancient prayers. PRAYER ยท 2 of 22
Invocation to Ahura Mazda
We begin with the Ahuna Vairya prayer, a powerful invocation to Ahura Mazda, the Amesha Spentas, and the Yazatas. Ahuna Vairya, the most sacred of all Zoroastrian prayers, is a call to the Wise Lord to guide and protect us on our journey towards spiritual enlightenment. We recite the Ashem Vohu, a declaration of our commitment to the path of righteousness and truth. May the blessings of Ahura Mazda and the Amesha Spentas be upon us as we embark on this sacred journey. Ahuna Vairya, Ashem Vohu, we call upon the divine presence to fill our hearts and minds with wisdom, courage, and compassion.

RITUAL ยท 3 of 22
The Sacred Fire Ritual
As we tend the sacred fire, we offer sandalwood and prayers to the flames, which represent Asha, the divine spark within us. The fire symbolizes the eternal and the infinite, a bridge between the material and spiritual worlds. As the flames dance and flicker, they remind us of the impermanence of life and the importance of living in accordance with truth and righteousness. With each offering, we reaffirm our commitment to the path of Asha, and we pray that the divine spark within us may be fanned into a flame of wisdom, compassion, and service to others.

Introducing the Gatha
Today, we recite the Ahunavaiti Gatha, a collection of sacred verses composed by Zarathustra himself over 3000 years ago. These timeless words, born of his own spiritual experiences and insights, continue to inspire and guide us on our journey towards spiritual enlightenment. In a world torn apart by conflict and division, these verses remind us of the importance of living in harmony with nature, with others, and with our own inner selves. May the wisdom and compassion that flowed through Zarathustra's heart and mind be our guide and inspiration as we navigate the challenges of our own time.

Understanding the Gatha
In these verses, Zarathustra expresses his deep reverence for Ahura Mazda, the Wise Lord, and his commitment to living in accordance with the principles of truth and righteousness. The concept of Vohu Manah, or good mind, represents the divine spark within us, which guides us towards wisdom, compassion, and self-awareness. The Ahunavaiti Gatha reminds us that our thoughts, words, and deeds have consequences, and that we must strive to live in harmony with the natural order of the universe. May these ancient words inspire us to cultivate a deeper sense of spiritual awareness, and may we walk in the light of Ahura Mazda's divine wisdom.

Teaching: Vohu Manah awakens with the sun
As we recite the Ahunavaiti Gatha, we invoke the divine presence of Vohu Manah, the embodiment of wisdom and good mind. In Zoroastrian theology, Vohu Manah is the Amesha Spenta who represents the power of positive thinking and mental clarity. At dawn, as the sun rises, Vohu Manah awakens, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness, and good over evil. This awakening is deeply connected to Asha, the cosmic order and truth, which is upheld by the Spenta Mainyu, the beneficent spirit. As we begin our day, we align ourselves with Vohu Manah, Asha, and Spenta Mainyu, embracing the divine guidance that leads us towards wisdom, justice, and righteousness.

The Amesha Spentas
As we contemplate Vohu Manah, we also reflect on the other Amesha Spentas, who are the divine emanations of Ahura Mazda. Spenta Mainyu, the beneficent spirit, works in harmony with Vohu Manah to promote the well-being of all creation. Haurvatat and Ameretat, the Amesha Spentas of wholeness and immortality, are also closely related to Vohu Manah, as they represent the perfection and eternal life that result from living in accordance with Asha. By invoking Vohu Manah, we call upon the collective wisdom and virtues of the Amesha Spentas, allowing us to navigate life's challenges with greater clarity and purpose. Through this invocation, we seek to embody the divine qualities that bring balance, harmony, and prosperity to the world.

Living the Wisdom
As we apply the wisdom of Vohu Manah in our daily lives, we strive to cultivate a positive and discerning mind. When faced with challenges, we ask ourselves: 'What is the wise and just response?' or 'How can I align my thoughts and actions with Asha?' By doing so, we become agents of constructive change, promoting the values of truth, justice, and compassion. For instance, in our personal relationships, we can choose to respond with empathy and understanding, rather than reacting impulsively. In our professional lives, we can make decisions that prioritize the well-being of all stakeholders, rather than solely pursuing self-interest. By embracing Vohu Manah's guidance, we become beacons of wisdom, inspiring others to follow the path of righteousness.

Recognizing Druj
However, we must remain vigilant against the forces of Druj, the Lie, which seek to undermine the cosmic order and lead us astray. Modern forms of Druj include deceit, manipulation, and destructive ideologies that masquerade as truth. We must recognize these subtle forms of deception and resist them with courage and discernment. Druj often masquerades as convenience, expediency, or self-interest, tempting us to compromise our values and integrity. As Zoroastrians, we counter Druj by upholding Asha, cultivating wisdom, and promoting the values of Vohu Manah. By doing so, we contribute to the triumph of good over evil and help to create a world where truth, justice, and compassion prevail.

STORY ยท 12 of 22
A Story from Tradition
In the Shah-nameh, the epic tale of Iran, we find a story that illustrates the struggle between Asha and Druj. Rustam, the legendary hero, faces numerous challenges as he battles against the forces of evil. One of his greatest tests is when he encounters the sorceress, Banu Goshtasp, who embodies the qualities of Druj. Through his wisdom, courage, and loyalty to Asha, Rustam is able to overcome the sorceress and restore justice to the land. This story serves as a reminder that, in our own lives, we must confront the forces of Druj and uphold the values of Asha, just as Rustam did in his time.

The Holy Immortals
Let us take a closer look at Haurvatat, the Amesha Spenta of wholeness. Haurvatat represents the perfection and completeness that arise from living in harmony with Asha. When we embody Haurvatat, we become whole and integrated, with a deep sense of purpose and direction. We are able to see the interconnectedness of all things and act in ways that promote the well-being of the entire web of life. By invoking Haurvatat, we call upon the divine qualities of wholeness and perfection, allowing us to become more complete and balanced individuals.

The Cosmic Order
The cosmic order, upheld by Asha, is the fundamental principle of the universe. It is the delicate balance between good and evil, light and darkness, and truth and falsehood. As Zoroastrians, we believe that we have a role to play in maintaining this balance, by making choices that align with Asha and resisting the forces of Druj. Through our free will, we can choose to follow the path of righteousness, upholding the values of Vohu Manah, Asha, and the Amesha Spentas. Ultimately, the triumph of good over evil is assured, as the cosmic order will be restored in the final victory of Asha over Druj. Until then, we must remain vigilant, promoting the values of wisdom, justice, and compassion, and working towards the creation of a world where truth and righteousness prevail.
