PRAYER ยท 2 of 22
Invocation to Ahura Mazda
We start with the Ahuna Vairya prayer, a most sacred invocation to Ahura Mazda. 'Ahuna Vairya, hamaspata mainyana, Naitis supa, daisyo ashunaiti...' As we recite these ancient words, we call upon the Wise Lord, the Amesha Spentas, and all Yazatas to join us in this ritual. We invoke the Ashem Vohu, 'Ashem Vohu, Vohu Ashem, Ashem Vohu...' - the embodiment of truth, goodness, and devotion. May our invocation be heard by the divine ears, and may we be guided by the principles of Asha, the divine order.

The Sacred Fire Ritual
As we tend the sacred fire, we offer sandalwood, a symbol of purification and devotion. The flames represent Asha, the divine spark within us, guiding us towards truth and righteousness. With each offering, we pray for the illumination of our minds and the warmth of our hearts. The fire is a reminder of the eternal and the infinite, connecting us to the divine and to each other. As the sandalwood burns, it releases its fragrance, signifying the sweet scent of devotion and the pursuit of spiritual growth.

Introducing the Gatha
Today, we turn to the Gatha, Yasna 45, a most sacred composition of Zarathustra. These verses were revealed to our prophet over 3000 years ago, and yet, their wisdom remains timeless and universal. Zarathustra, in his divine inspiration, proclaimed these words to awaken humanity to the truth of creation and the path of righteousness. As we recite these verses, we connect with the spiritual heritage of our tradition and reaffirm our commitment to the principles of Asha.

Sacred Verses โ Part I
We begin with the first portion of the Gatha: 'That I may proclaim, O Mazda, the creations which are thine, O Ahura! The good creations which are thine, O Wise One! Which are to be chosen, O Spirit! Through the Asha, I behold the creations, the life-giving, the truth, the divine order...' Ahura Mazda, we seek to understand the mysteries of creation and to acknowledge the divine spark within all beings. May our words be guided by the light of truth, and may we walk the path of righteousness.

Sacred Verses โ Part II
The Gatha continues: 'The star which runs on its course, the moon which waxes and wanes, the sun which moves on its path, the dawn which breaks, the radiance which shines, all these are thine, O Mazda! Ahura, I behold them through Asha, the divine order...' As we contemplate the celestial bodies and the rhythms of nature, we are reminded of the harmony and balance that exist in the universe. May we strive to emulate this balance within ourselves and in our relationships with others.

Understanding the Gatha
In these verses, Zarathustra proclaims his vision of creation and the divine order. He invokes Ahura Mazda, the Wise Lord, and acknowledges the sacred fire, the symbol of Asha, as the guiding principle of the universe. The Avestan concept of Asha represents the divine order, truth, and righteousness. Through Asha, we understand the interconnectedness of all beings and the pursuit of spiritual growth. These ancient words remind us of the importance of living in harmony with nature and with each other, and of striving for wisdom, compassion, and devotion.

Teaching: Gratitude for creation
In Yasna 45, Zarathushtra proclaims his mission to uplift humanity through the wisdom of Ahura Mazda. The foundation of this wisdom is gratitude for creation, which stems from understanding the nature of Asha, or divine truth. Asha represents the cosmic order, where every element has a purpose and functions in harmony. Vohu Manah, or good mind, enables us to comprehend and appreciate this order. Spenta Mainyu, the beneficent spirit, drives the evolution of creation towards perfection. By embracing these principles, we cultivate gratitude for the intricate web of life and our role within it. As we begin this dawn service, let us reflect on how Asha, Vohu Manah, and Spenta Mainyu guide us towards a deeper appreciation of creation.

The Amesha Spentas
The Amesha Spentas, or beneficent immortals, play a crucial role in manifesting Ahura Mazda's creation. Specifically, Vohu Manah and Asha work in tandem to foster wisdom and righteousness. Vohu Manah inspires us to think positively and make choices that align with Asha, while Asha provides the framework for living in accordance with divine truth. Another key Amesha Spenta is Ardvi Sura Anahita, representing the life-giving force of water and the purity of devotion. Her presence reminds us of the importance of nurturing and respecting the natural world. By honoring these Amesha Spentas, we come to understand the interconnectedness of all things and express gratitude for their guidance in our lives.

Living the Wisdom
As we integrate the wisdom of Yasna 45 into our daily lives, we can apply the principle of gratitude for creation in practical ways. For instance, we can begin each day with a moment of reflection, acknowledging the intricate balance of nature and our place within it. When faced with challenges, we can ask ourselves: 'How can I respond in a way that aligns with Asha and Vohu Manah?' or 'What opportunity for growth lies hidden in this situation?' By adopting this mindset, we become more mindful of our choices and their impact on the world around us. We can also express gratitude through simple actions, such as conserving resources, supporting sustainable initiatives, or volunteering for environmental causes. These concrete steps help us embody the teachings of Zarathushtra and contribute to the greater good.

Recognizing Druj
However, as we strive to live in accordance with Asha and the Amesha Spentas, we must be aware of the opposing force of Druj, or chaos. Druj represents the destructive power of lies, ignorance, and disorder. In modern times, Druj can manifest as environmental degradation, social injustices, or individual dishonesty. We must recognize these forms of Druj and resist them through conscious choices and actions. By questioning the sources of information, evaluating our motivations, and standing up for truth, we can counter the influence of Druj. As Zarathushtra teaches, 'The lie is destructive to the world; it is the destroyer of truth and goodness.' Let us remain vigilant and committed to upholding Asha in the face of Druj.

STORY ยท 12 of 22
A Story from Tradition
The Shah-nameh, or Book of Kings, tells the legendary story of Rustam, a hero who embodied the values of courage, loyalty, and justice. One day, Rustam encountered a massive, demonic creature known as the White Demon. As he battled the beast, he realized that its destructive power was fueled by the darkness within human hearts. Rustam understood that true strength lies not in physical prowess, but in upholding the principles of Asha and Vohu Manah. This story reminds us that our individual choices have a profound impact on the world and that we must strive to be champions of truth, goodness, and wisdom.

The Holy Immortals
Let us explore the Amesha Spenta of Ardvi Sura Anahita in greater depth. As the goddess of fertility, purity, and devotion, she inspires us to cultivate a deeper connection with the natural world. Her presence reminds us of the sacredness of water, the source of all life. By honoring Ardvi Sura Anahita, we acknowledge the intricate web of relationships between humans, animals, plants, and the earth. We are encouraged to live in harmony with the environment, respecting the delicate balance of ecosystems and the interconnectedness of all living beings.

The Cosmic Order
The cosmic order, as revealed through Asha, Vohu Manah, and the Amesha Spentas, is a powerful reminder of the ultimate triumph of good over evil. As we navigate the complexities of life, we must remember that our choices contribute to the ongoing struggle between Asha and Druj. Through free will, we can opt to align with the divine order, upholding truth, wisdom, and righteousness. In doing so, we become co-creators with Ahura Mazda, working towards the perfection of creation. May we remain committed to this noble endeavor, striving to manifest a world where Asha reigns supreme, and Druj is vanquished.
